Richard D. Pickering

XENIA Richard D. Pickering, went to be with the Lord Thursday morning at his home. He was born October 28, 1931, in Caesarscreek Township and spent most of his life living and farming there. Mr. Pickering spent two years in the US Army and fought in Korea. He also served on the Greene Co. Fair board for 21 years was a Countrymark Coop director, member of the Tecumseh 39'ers camping club, a member of the Oldtimers Club and enjoyed antique tractors. He was a lifelong member of the Paintersville United Methodist Church and a 1949 graduate of Xenia Central High School. Mr. Pickering married Frances Jean Matthews on June 14, 1950 and they were together for over 62 years. Survivors include his wife, son Dave (Terry) Pickering, of Jamestown, Daughter Sue (Jerry) Strickle of Xenia, Grandchildren Shauna (Travis) Cunningham, Anna (Billy) Powers, Jamestown, Julie (John) Campbell, Columbus, Kayla (Seth) Van Zant, Xenia, Alex Pickering, Jamestown, Great-grandchildren Josey and Will Powers, Frankie Howard and Annalea Cunningham. Brother Russell Pickering and sister Patty Wilson of Xenia, sister in law Joann Snyder of Albany, New York and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Pickering was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Reva Wolary Pickering, Sisters, Martha Pickering, and Dorthy Dean. Services will be held at 11am, Monday, December 10, 2012, at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia, with Rev. John Beers and Rev. Clarence Dinnen officiating. Visitation will be held from 10am Monday, until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Bowersville.
