XENIA Thomas L. Ernstes, 86, of Xenia, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2013, at Liberty Nursing Center of Xenia. He was born June 11, 1926, in Greensburg, Indiana, the son of August J. and Cecilia Anna Schott Ernstes. He was a member of St. Brigid Church, where he actively served on many parish committees. He was a Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He did all data entry for the Xenia Fish Pantry. He retired in 1993, as a conservationist with the US Soil Conservation Service after 37 years, and the Greene County Soil and Conservation Service for 6 years. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Wilma (Ohmer) Ernstes, whom he married July 2, 1949, four daughters, Kathleen (Sam) Quattrocchi, Raleigh, NC, Mary (Scott) Lydy, Kettering, Ruth (Mark) Hill, Xenia, Martha (Kenneth) Davis, Xenia, a son-in-law, Thomas Forsthoefel, Xenia, eleven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and by several close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Janet Forsthoefel, a son, Kenneth Ernstes, three sisters, Margaret Meyer, Rosemary Rethlake, and Helen Brown, and two brothers, Anthony Ernstes and Edward Ernstes. Tom will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. A special thank you to Dr. Richard and Tammy Byers for all their care provided to Tom. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am, Saturday, January 5, 2013, at St. Brigid Church, 312 Fairground Rd., Xenia, with Rev. John Krumm officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7pm Friday, at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia. Burial will be in St. Brigid Cemetery.
