XENIA — Janet L. Sandifer, 71, of Xenia, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2014, at her residence. She was born August 28, 1942, in Alexandria, Kentucky, the daughter of Jacob T. and Maude L. Jenkins McVean. She was a member of Faith Community United Methodist Church and retired as the vice president of commercial loans at Security National Bank, Xenia. Throughout her life, she was active in many civic organizations including the Xenia Area Chamber of Commerce, Greene County Development Board, Greene Memorial Hospital Board, Xenia Old Fashioned Days, Blue Jacket outdoor theater, Business and Professional Women's Association, Beta Sigma Phi, Optimist Club Auxiliary, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a former member of Greene Country Club and was an avid golfer. Janet and Bob spent many years RVing across the country and met many lifelong friends. After retirement, they work camped in Texas during the winter and spent summers at home in Xenia. While home in Xenia, she often volunteered at her church and at Greene Memorial Hospital. She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Sue (George) Hess, Orange, CA, a brother and sister-in-law, Richard (Sandy) McVean, Temple Terrace, FL, by numerous other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, by many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews, including special nieces and nephews, Melanie McVean, Temple Terrace, FL, Greg (Myrna) Hess, Las Vegas, NV, Mindy Weiss, Anaheim, CA, Aaron Hess, Orange, CA, Joe Sandifer, Plainfield, IN, Angie (Jeff) Martin, Mooresville, IN, and Matt (Teresa) Sandifer, West Chester, OH, and by many close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Robert N. Sandifer, on June 15, 2007. Janet will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Services will be held at 10am, Saturday, February 1, 2014, at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 N. Detroit St., Xenia, with Rev. Bradford Olson officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm Friday, at the funeral home. Visitation in Kentucky will be held from 11am-12noon, Tuesday, February 4, at the Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd., Louisville. Graveside services will follow the visitation in Calvary Cemetery, Louisville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Greene Memorial Hospital or to the Ruth G.
