FAIRBORN — Elby L. Tackett, age 87 of Fairborn, passed away Sunday July 20, 2014 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born February 26, 1927 in Pike Co., KY, the son of the late Rufus M. and Pearl (Mullins) Tackett. Elby served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and earned his Bachelor of Science degree from EKU. A lifelong educator until the age of 82; he retired from Fairmont West High School, and continued his love of teaching at Sinclair Community College and Hillel Academy. He graciously served his Lord for over 50 years at Grace Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Lois in 2002; two brothers; two sisters; and a step-daughter, Becky Teilhet. He is survived by his wife of 5 years, Mary Louise; two children, Gary M. (Suzi) Tackett of Fairborn, Judi (John) Swallows of Vandalia; seven grandchildren, Janel Norman, Jacob Tackett, Brandon Tackett, Alexandra Tackett, Johnnie Swallows, Alison Fox, Jamie Farmer; eight great-grandchildren, six brothers, Milburn (Nadine), Harlos (Connie), Carlos (Georgia), Phillip (Lori), Jake, Chad; two sisters, Brooksie, Lois Evelyn (Worley); five step-children, Linda (Chris) Krull, Sheliah (Chris) Cundiff, Justin Teilhet, Dan Lawson, Tim Lawson; numerous step-grandchildren; as well several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Hospice of Dayton for their exceptional care. A funeral service will be held on Thursday July 24, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. in the Grace Baptist Church, 2920 Beaver Valley Rd., Fairborn, Pastor Mark Pyles officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church. Interment with military honors will follow in the Valley View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton –or- Grace Baptist Church. Arrangements in care of Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, Fairborn.
