XENIA — Dorothy E. Lauman, age 95, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 13, 2014 after a long and beautiful life. She was born to the late Richard Shelby and Mildred (Southard) Thompson on July 13, 1919 in New Vienna, Ohio. Dorothy grew up in Wilmington, Ohio and graduated from Wilmington High School in 1938. On January 1, 1939 she married the late John E. Lauman and they resided in Xenia, Ohio where she raised her family. Through the years she volunteered at Greene Memorial Hospital, United Voluntary Service and the American Cancer Society. She later worked at Tiffany Jewelers and, along with her husband, John, owned the Carriage House Restaurant. Dorothy and John hosted many parties for family and friends and were always very gracious, generous and fun. In 1969 they moved to Davie, Florida where she resided until her death. Dorothy worked at Dorberry Jewelers and Michael's. Dorothy had many hobbies as she was always curious about so many things. She loved to sew and quilt and was a member of the West Broward Quilt Quild. She became an avid gardener and loved to be in her garden cultivating and growing her beloved orchids. She was a lifelong member of the Eastern Star Aldora Chapter # 262 in Xenia, Ohio. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, John E. Lauman in 2001, her brothers, Merrill Thompson, Richard Shelby Thompson, Jr. and Homer Thompson; and her sister Helen Thompson. She is survived by her children J. Robert (Barbara) Lauman of Lawrenceville, GA; Elizabeth A. Lauman of Surfside Beach, South Carolina and Mary Lynne Lauman Meranda of Davie, Florida; her sister Mary Lou Sprowle; her grandchildren, Leslie (William) Grisham; Peter (Eileen) Nordlund; Andrew (Lori) Lauman; Amber Meranda, John (Alicia) Meranda, Jessie Meranda, Troy (Stephanie) Meranda; Mark (Maria) Lauman and Bobby (Jennifer) Lauman; 13 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She will be missed and will always be loved and remembered with fondness. Please raise a glass in her honor. Services will be held 2PM Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at McColaugh Funeral Home, Inc. 826 N. Detroit St., Xenia with Rev. Donald Payne officiating. Internment immediately following at Woodland Cemetery, Xenia. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
