XENIA — Virgil D. Clay Sr. age 81, of Xenia, OH; went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, April 12, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 3, 1934 in Yellow Springs, Ohio, the son of Julius and Eva (Dickerson) Clay. Virgil retired from Morris Bean Foundry after over 40 years of faithful service. Virgil loved to bowl, fish, golf and most of all, spend time with his family. He served his country in the US Army. Virgil is survived by his wife, Mary E. (White) Clay of 27 years, who stayed true to her promise of "till death do us part." He is also survived by his children: Theresa, Kim Anita, Virgil Jr., Kim White, Angela (Douglas) Owens, Ida Hawkins, Jana D., Carl R. Smith, Jennifer L., Andrea L. Smith, Natalie Y., Vincent E. Smith, all of Springfield and Xenia, Ohio; 39 grandchildren and 86 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and many close friends, or as he called them "Partners". He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Hazel J. Baker, brother-in-law: Robert Baker, Aunt Julia Lynch; niece: Sandra Moss; Daughters: Carmen Smith and Paula Clay. Funeral service will be held 1 PM Monday, April 18th at First United Christian Church, 626 N. Columbus Ave., Xenia with Pastor Dr. Edgar A. Wallace and Pastor Doug Owens officiating. Interment to follow in the National Cemetery, Dayton. Visitation will be held 12 Noon Monday until the time of service at the church.
