WINSTON-SALEM — On the evening of March 5, 2015, Dr. John T. Harriott of Winston-Salem passed away after a short but fierce battle with pancreatic cancer. John was only 57 years young. He was one of five sons born to Peter and Mary Lou Harriott of Ithaca, New York. John graduated from Cornell University, Albert Einstein School of Medicine, and Syracuse University. Dr. Harriott served his community as a retina specialist and cared for thousands of patients during his 22 years of practice in NC. He took the care of each patient as a personal privilege and responsibility. It is described best by Dr. Harriott as he is quoted here, "If your work is your passion you will never work a day in your life." He loved his family, his work, his patients, his employees and friends. John had many talents and hobbies some of which included sports car restoration and woodworking. John was an expert craftsman and made beautiful pieces of furniture for his family that they will cherish and enjoy for many years. John leaves behind three beautiful children, Courtney Harriott Rose (Russ), Bryan Wesley Harriott, and Kevin Bradford Harriott; and their mother, Angela Harriott. John was so very proud of all of his children and his love for them knew no end. He will be missed greatly by so many but he will continue to live in our hearts and memories every day. We will see him again in heaven where he is patiently waiting for us now. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. on April 11, 2015, at College Park Baptist Church, 1701 Polo Road, Winston Salem, NC 27106. A special thank you to all who supported John and his family with cards, gestures, visits, meals, and moments. John and his family were in awe of the love and kindness they received from so many people during this difficult battle.
