EAST BEND — Nelda Speer Adams, 74, of East Bend, passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2014, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born on Sept. 24, 1939, to the late Thomas Walter and Minerva Mikles Speer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Bud Speer. Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 59 years, Bill Adams; two daughters, Kim (Bernie) Williams of Farmington and Tonya (Johnny) Shumate of East Bend; three brothers, Leroy (Pansy) Speer, Denny (Sharon) Speer, and Merle (Judy) Speer, all of East Bend; two sisters, Lucille Hunt and Aggie May Smitherman, both of East Bend; four grandchildren, Michael (Amanda) Doub, Kyle Doub, Josh Shumate, Levi Shumate; and two great-grandchildren, Gavin Doub and Caden Doub. A funeral service for Mrs. Adams was held on Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Huff Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Edwards officiating. Burial followed at Stony Knoll UMC. The family received friends on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Huff Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Brenner's Children's Hospital, Winston-Salem.
