YADKINVILLE — Mr. Samuel Gurney Harris Sr., 94, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Harris was born Dec. 30, 1919, in Yadkin County to Miles and Nancy Wooten Harris. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Philippines during World War II. In addition to his parents, Mr. Harris was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Elizabeth Nance Harris; two children, Margaret Childress and Samuel G. Harris Jr.; six sisters, Lucy, Ruth, Martha Ellen, Ethel, Edna and Pauline; and four brothers, Clyde, Frank, Luther and Marson. He is survived by two daughters, Ann Anderson and Wanda Dupree; a special nephew, Ralph (Cathy) Harris; eight grandchildren, Wayne Harris, Linda Anderson, J.E. Anderson, Nancy Hickman, Crystal Smith, and Jibri, Kayin, and Nya Dupree; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Josephine Key; his son's fiancée, Judy Wishon; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Gentry Funeral Service Chapel in Yadkinville with the Rev. Grady Trivette officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Baptist Church cemetery with full military honors provided by the N.C. National Guard Honor Guard and Yadkin VFW post 10346. The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Gentry Funeral Service in Yadkinville.
