Charles Yarnell Obituary

WRIGHTSVILLE Charles R. "Dick" Yarnell, Jr., 62, died Saturday, February 5, 2011, as a result of a motor vehicle accident on Route 30, Lancaster County. Dick was the husband of Barbara Derr Yarnell. They were married November 26, 1971. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Charles R., Sr. and Gladys Eckman Yarnell. He worked as a millwright for the former Grinnell Corporation, Columbia. Dick was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving with the 3rd Battalion Force Recon. He was awarded the Purple Heart for his service. Dick enjoyed working on older cars, especially his 1929 Ford pickup truck. He enjoyed camping at the beach in Crisfield, Md., and watching NASCAR, especially Tony Stewart. Dick enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Dick is survived by his children, Todd R. Yarnell of Columbia, Shawn M., husband of Kristie Yarnell of Chambersburg, Amy, wife of Patrick Shue of Wrightsville, and Chad, husband of Catrina Yarnell of Elizabethtown; a sister, Mary, wife of Martin Arredondo of Columbia; and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Gebhart. A viewing followed by a prayer service will be held Tuesday, February 15, 2011, from the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc., 519 Walnut St., Columbia, from 6 to 8 p.m. A separate memorial and interment service will be announced at a later date. Please omit flowers. Contributions in Dick's memory may be made to Disabled American Veterans, Attn: Gift Processing, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250.
