WEST YORK Ernest L. Meckley, 92, passed away Monday, December 24, 2012, at Manor Care North. He was the loving husband of the late Mabel L. (Sechrist) Meckley who passed away in 1988. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, 250 Chestnut Hill Rd., York, with the Rev. Dr. Janyce C. Jorgensen officiating. A flag folding detail will be provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Friends and family will meet at 2:15 p.m. at the entrance of the cemetery. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, is in charge of arrangements. Born February 23, 1920, in Spring Grove, a son of the late Raymond C. and Hallie (Stauffer) Meckley, he retired as Mill Superintendent from Certain Teed Corp. after more than 40 years of service. He was a lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church and a life member of American Legion Post 0945. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Ernest is survived by daughter, Andrea L. Miller and husband Robert of York; two grandchildren, Darin L. Miller and Wendy L. Lehr, both of York; two great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Helena Weitkamp, Geraldine Heininger, and Ruth Wallick, all of York. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. Memorial contributions may be made to St. James Lutheran Church, 25 N. Adams St., York, PA 17404; or to any organization of your choice. Ernie even though your words were "oh no you don't" when any of us said we love you but little did you know we meant it and still do. We miss you deeply buddy and my heart is heavy knowing you aren't there when I go to work everyday. You are with your wife now, We at manor care will always remember you.
