Arthur T. Backel

YOE Arthur T. Backel, 74, died on Sunday, August 12, 2012, at 12:05 a.m. at Manor Care Health Services Dallastown. He was the husband of the late Ethel M. (Hinkel) Backel. Viewing will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday at Workinger-Semmel F.H. & Crematorium, Inc., 849 E. Market St., York. The service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. E. Gordon Ross, pastor of St. John (Sadler's) Lutheran Church in Stewartstown, officiating. Burial will follow the service in Prospect Hill Cemetery. The family will host a gathering at Yoe Park on Philadelphia St., in Yoe immediately following committal at the cemetery. Mr. Backel was born September 2, 1937, in York, the son of the late Arthur and Mary (Beaverson) Backel. He was a tow motor operator with the former Cole Steel for over 20 years, a member of the Motor Menders (York County), Prince A.A., and the former York Moose Lodge # 148. Mr. Backel is survived by two daughters, Terri Herbst of Windsor and Theresa Buchhultz of Strinestown; four sons, Arthur T. Backel, Jr. of York, Clarence "Dan" Backel and Mark Backel, both of Yoe, and Joey Backel of York; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
