Bernice Harshberger

Harshberger SPRING GROVE Bernice R. (Sheaffer) Harshberger, 96, passed away on November 12, 2012, at Manor Care South in York. She was born in Jackson Township on December 8, 1915, and was the daughter of the late Levi F. and Mamie (Stambaugh) Sheaffer. She worked as a sewing machine operator for Danskin in York and retired in 1979. She was a longtime member of Trinity Roth's United Church of Christ in Spring Grove. She enjoyed taking bus trips with the Golden Nuggets and Jolly Seniors. She was a former member of the York County Democratic Club; York Chapter #24 AARP and St. Joseph's Young at Heart. She is survived by her son Richard V. Harshberger and his wife Albina of El Paso, Texas; her grandchildren, Dana Goodling of Dover, Tammy Morrison and her husband, Bobby of Dallastown and Ricky Harshberger of El Paso, Texas; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Earl Sheaffer, Ralph "Fred" Sheaffer; and her sisters, Mary Pfaff, Lucretia Forry and Ethel Sowers. Following cremation, a memorial service in celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Irwin-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service PC, 175 N Main St., Spring Grove with Rev. Gene Edwards officiating. She will be buried at Trinity Roth's UCC Cemetery following the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 12 to 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Building Fund at Trinity Roth's UCC, Church Rd., Spring Grove PA 17362.
