Caroline C. Thomas YORK Caroline C. (Churchina) Thomas, 85, died Saturday, June 29, 2013, at Normandie Ridge. She was the wife of the late, Chester D. Thomas, Jr. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York, with a viewing from 9 to 10 a.m. Certified Celebrant Betty Frey will be officiating at the service. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in York. Mrs. Thomas was born in Johnstown, on October 23, 1927, the daughter of the late Stoyan "Anthony" and Stanica "Stella" (Novakovich) Churchina. She retired as the Purchasing Manager for the City of York. Mrs. Thomas was a member of the Shiloh American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Liberty Social Club, and was a member of Devers Area Neighborhood Association. She was very active in the Democrat Political Party. She served many years as President of York Public Employees Association. Mrs. Thomas leaves two sons, Chester D. Thomas, III of York and Robert D. Thomas of Etters; a daughter, Susan C. Thomas of York; four grandchildren, Casey S. Thomas of Philadelphia, Christopher D. Kauffman of York, Elizabeth Yingling of Mechanicsburg, and Bridget A. Thomas of Etters; a sister, Amelia Tokarsky of Johnstown, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, William M. "Skip" Thomas; and a grandson, Kevin Thomas.
