Daniel E. Carl

SPRING GROVE Daniel E. Carl, 74, passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2013, at Hanover Hall in Hanover. He was the loving husband of Sandra L. (Mathias) Carl. Together they shared over 56 years. Daniel was born in York, on December 9, 1938, and was the son of the late John Carl and Esther (Miller) Carl. He graduated from Eichelberger High School class of 1956. He worked for P.H. Glatfelter in Spring Grove for over 40 years. He was a member of Mt. Zion U.C.C. Church in Spring Grove, Friendship Hose Co.#1, Glatco Credit Union, where he was chairman of the Supervisory Committee, Windy Hill Senior Center, Seven Valleys Hunting Club, Twin Rose Good Sam Club, Papertown Inn Bowling Team, and the Quarter Century Club at P.H. Glatfelter. In addition to his wife, Sandra, he is survived by his sons, Daniel E. Carl, II and wife, Kelly, and Neal A. Carl and his companion, Beth Hengst of Spring Grove; his grandchildren, Brittney O'Brien and husband, Jimmy, Abigail Carl, Danielle Rebert and husband, Luke, and Keenan Carl; and his great-grandchildren, Ayden O'Brien and Ryder Rebert. He is also survived by his brothers, Donald Carl and wife, Wendy, and Scott Carl; and his sisters, Nancy Staub and husband, Donald, and Jean Gross and companion, Bill Hursch. He was predeceased by his son, Jason M. Carl, and his brother, John A. Carl Jr. A funeral service in celebration of his life will be held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Irwin-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 175 N Main St., Spring Grove, with the Rev. Dr. Larry Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Marburg Memorial Gardens in Hanover. A viewing will be held on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
