Darlene S. Myers

DOVER Darlene S. Myers, 66, formerly of New Oxford, died Friday, April 4, 2014, at home. She was a courageous 12-year cancer survivor. She was born May 20, 1948, in Baltimore, Md., daughter of Myrle Snyder of Gettysburg, and Robert J. Snyder, who died December 5, 2009. Mrs. Myers was a retired teacher with the Conewago Valley School District. She was also a substitute teacher in Washington, Ill. She was a Girl Scout leader in the 1980s and a former Sunday school teacher and choir member of Emory United Methodist Church in New Oxford. She was a fan of the Baltimore Orioles and the Pittsburgh Penguins, Steelers, and Pirates. She enjoyed wearing Quacker Factory clothing and collecting Boyds Bears. She was also a great Beatles fan. Her survivors include her husband of 42 years, Kenneth Myers; her mother, Myrle Snyder; her daughter, Shelley Veltri and her husband, Pat of West Mifflin; her son, Scott Myers of York; her granddaughter, Caroline Veltri of West Mifflin; and her sisters, Rosie Myers of Looneyville, W.Va., Bonnie J. Mummert and her husband, Sam of Waynesboro, and Rebecca A. Ledford of Gettysburg. She is also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at the Monahan Funeral Home, 125 Carlisle St., Gettysburg. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Gettysburg. A viewing for Mrs. Myers will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.. Contributions may be made in Mrs. Myers' name to the Margaret E. Moul Home, 2050 Barley Road, York, PA 17408.
