Emma C. Green

YORK Emma Claudia (Sawyer) Green, 82, entered into the presence of God on Friday, December 21, 2012, from her home with family by her side. Born on January 4, 1930 in New Bern, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Mary Jane (Holloway) Sawyer and Claude Sawyer. Emma was a unit clerk for York Hospital and was employed by Shadow Fax for 23 years. She celebrated 47 years of sobriety and had been the Exc. Director of the AA program at the Community Progress Council. She was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church. Miss Emma leaves to cherish her memory her children: Portia Newman, Reuben A. Green, Clifford Green and Gerald Green, all of York; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; a sister, Francis Banks of New York; and friends. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Reuben A. Green and a son, Grayling Green. The viewing will be on Friday, December 28, 2012 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church, S. Pershing Ave., York. The Celebration of Life Service will begin at 11 a.m. with her Pastor, Dr. Aaron Wilford, Jr. officiating. Entombment will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Gladfelter Funeral Home, Inc., 822 E. Market St., York, is entrusted with arrangements.
