Ertha L. Hopkins

YORK Ertha Lee Bailey Faison Hopkins, 96, entered into rest on Friday, February 8, 2013. She was the widow of Irvin (Sam) Hopkins. Ertha was born on December 16, 1916, in Bamberg, S.C., to the late Tillman and Josephine (Cobbs) Bailey. Due to the passing of her mother, Ertha was raised by a wonderful step-mother Rev. Mattie J. Bailey, founder of Wheatfield Street CLG in York. Ertha received her formal education in Bamberg, SC and York. Some of her special interests were: laughing with Mrs. Dot, Mrs. Ernestine, Mrs. Francis, Mrs. Nimsy and a good friend Mrs. Ruth Washington to reminisce a Wellington Project wonderland of friends. Ertha also enjoyed dancing, bowling, cooking, sometimes guessing the lottery and her favorite pastime was spending time with her grandchildren. Ertha leaves to cherish her memory, a son, Lionel Bailey and daughter-in-law, Dorothy Bailey of MD; a daughter, Beverly Bailey, of Dallastown; a brother, William Pillgreen of IL.; grandchildren, great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other family members and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Oscar Bailey, a sister, Sadell Sexton and one grandson, Denny Robert Brittingham. A viewing is scheduled for Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Wheatfield CLG, 341 Wheatfield St., York PA 17403 and a Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Ramona Kinard, officiating. Burial will be private at a later time. Please Note: We regret there will be no repass following our mother's service.
