Esther O. Sechrist

GLEN ROCK Esther O. (Shearer) Sechrist, 94, a resident of Autumn House East for the past three years, and formerly of Glen Rock, died Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at Rest Haven-York. She was the wife of the late Henry E. Sechrist. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, December 1, 2012, at St. Paul United Church of Christ, 161 S. Main St., Shrewsbury, with the Rev. Elmer Scofield officiating. Burial will be in Giesey Memorial Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Geiple Funeral Home, Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock, and from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the church. Mrs. Sechrist was born on June 25, 1918, in Jacobus, a daughter of the late Solomon P. and Mary M. (Beck) Shearer. She retired in 1986 as a Tax Collector for Shrewsbury Township after 20 years of service. She graduated from William Penn High School in the class of 1936. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Shrewsbury. She sang in the choir, and was a member of the Sunday School, where she was a teacher and played the piano. Mrs. Sechrist was very involved in the church and it was a very important part of her life. She also was a member of the Shrewsbury Fire Company's Ladies Auxiliary, served as Treasurer for 25 years for the York County Fireman's Ladies Auxiliary, and was a member of Jacobus Farm Women's Group. Mrs. Sechrist is survived by a daughter, Sondra M. "Mickey" Diekjobst of Englewood, N.J.; three sons, Lynn D. Sechrist and Jere E. Sechrist, both of Shrewsbury, and Jan Sechrist of Red Lion; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Clark Shearer of York. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Brent Sechrist; a sister; and six brothers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ, 161 S. Main St., Shrewsbury, PA 17361.
