YORK Eugene E. Chisholm passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2014, at Rest Haven Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. He was the husband of Johanna M. (Smith) Chisholm. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Ocean in WWII on the USS Darby and was honorably discharged in January, 1946. He worked for Standard Register Corporation for 33 years and was a member of the York Symphony Chorus and Calvary United Methodist Church. Gene had a great memory and enjoyed talking about his family, faith, golf, bowling, and being in the Navy. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014 at the John W. Keffer Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., 902 Mt. Rose Avenue, York, with the Rev. Roland Garvin officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Winifred Sellentine; and his brother, William G. Chisholm, Jr. In 1981, Gene was called to head up the White Rose Chapter of Yokefellowship Prison Ministry, which began 32 years of helping inmates and ex-offenders yoke themselves to Christ for salvation and changed lives. The ministry became his life's mission, even leading him to bowl for 24 hours at the age of 83 to raise money so the Yokefellows could continue assisting prisoners, ex-convicts, and their families. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Yokefellowship Prison Ministry, 40 Jefferson Avenue, York, PA 17401. "Come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30
