Gene David Strickler

YORK Gene David Strickler passed away peacefully at Manor Care North at 10:10 a.m. Saturday, December 21, 2013. He was the beloved husband of Althea (Kohler) Strickler for more than 65 years. Born September 17, 1928, in Manchester, he was a son of the late Norman D. and Jennie (Yoder) Strickler. He was a 1946 graduate of William Penn High School, and then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, receiving an Honorable Discharge on July 12, 1946. Following his discharge from the Marines, he was employed by York County Gas Company, P. A. & S. Small Company, and retired from Bortner Brothers, Inc. in 1990. In 1995, he and his wife built a home and moved to Keowee Key, S.C., where they enjoyed the warm weather and a lot of golf. While living there, they were members of Saint Mark United Methodist Church, where they made many friends. In 2012, they returned to York due to Gene's health. He was a member of Saint Paul United Methodist Church in Manchester and the Victory Club in York. He was also a member of York Lodge #206, Free and Accepted Masons for more than 50 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Jayne Strickler Shepro and her husband Dan, and Nancy Strickler Berkheimer and her husband George, all of York; four grandchildren, Michael Thomas and his wife Julie, and Dr. Brian Thomas and his wife Anne, all of York, Nathan Erbe and his wife Cara of Franklin, Tenn., and Elizabeth Erbe of York; three great-grandchildren, Wesley and Samuel Thomas, and Livia Erbe; two nieces, Linda Tice of Lancaster, and Carolyn Fernbaugh of Dillsburg; and three step grandsons, Pete, Troy and Eric Shepro. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Clarence W. Strickler, and a sister, Mildred Feeser. A celebration of his life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Saint Paul United Methodist Church, 4360 Board Road, Manchester, with his pastor, the Rev. Chuck Sprenkle officiating. Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will be private. William E. Little Funeral Homes, Inc., 60 S. Main St., Manchester, is in charge of arrangements.
