Harold L. Kauffman

YORK Harold "Butch" L. Kauffman, 90, entered into the presence of the Lord at 9:20 p.m. on Monday, April 14, 2014, at Manorcare North. He was the loving husband of Faye A. (Crone) Kauffman. The couple celebrated 54 years of marriage on December 19, 2013. Born August 10, 1923, in Manchester Township, Harold was a son of the late Arthur S. and Alverta V. (Heilman) Kauffman. He founded HAFA Construction Company, Inc. in 1962, from which he retired in 1989. Prior to that, he was employed by Hoover Casket Company and Roundtown Elementary School. He was also a partner in the firm, Kauffman Lumber Co., with his now deceased brother, William Kauffman. Harold was a veteran of World War II, serving in Italy as a demolition expert. He also served stateside during the Korean War. He was a Charter Member of Boy Scout Troop 54, Roundtown. Harold served as Scoutmaster, Explorer Leader, Institutional Representative, and also in the York Imperial District as Vice Chairman. He served in Scouting for 48 years. He also served 18 years on the Manchester Twp. Planning Commission. Harold was a member of the Church of the Open Door in Shiloh and served as a former Property Chairman. In addition to his wife, Harold is survived by four children, Tiffany M. Kauffman of Dallastown, Andrea K. Kauffman and husband, Mino Iorgoveanu of Fresno, Calif., and Craig A. Kauffman and wife, Karen Mueller, and Douglas M. Kauffman, all of York; four granddaughters, Monique Patton and husband, Chris, Danielle Klinedinst and husband, Joe, Janae Kauffman and fiance, Casey Brenner, and Kathryn Harvey; six great-grandchildren, Easton and Mila Brenner, Marley and Piper Klinedinst, and Jackson and Caitlin Patton; two sisters, Lois Dietz of York and Marilyn Kochenour of Dover; and a brother, Bernard Kauffman of York. In addition to his parents and brother, William, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Geraldine M. (Harbold) Kauffman; two sisters, Gladys Altland and Genevieve Besecker; and brother, Clair Kauffman. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Harold's funeral at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 18, 2014, with the viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. at Church of the Open Door, 8 Carlisle Court, York. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery, York. Officiating will be his pastors, the Rev. Robert Riedy and the Rev. Donald Wagner. Emig Funeral Home, Dover, is in charge of arrangements.
