Harold R. Bixler Sr.

YOUNGTOWN, AZ Harold R. Bixler, Sr., formerly of Hanover, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2014, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Phoenix, Ariz. He was the husband of Freda G. (Shive) Bixler, whom he married April 20, 1940. Mr. Bixler was born April 5, 1920, son of the late Benjamin Bixler and Goldie (Lau) Sterner. A World War II veteran, he served in the South Pacific 136th Inf. 33rd Div. Co. L. He was employed at AMP, P.H. Glatfelter, and Air Research in Arizona. Harold served many years as a 4H leader in farming and also as a Boy Scout leader. He loved the Lord and served the church as a deacon at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jefferson, as a trustee at Calvary Bible Church, Hanover, and as an elder in the Baptist Church in Prescott, Ariz. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Harold R. Bixler, Jr. and wife, Francine of Peoria, Ariz.; and daughters, Judith McCulloh of York and Melody Zink of Madison, Ga. A daughter, Goldie Krebs, preceded him in death. There are seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. A memorial service with the Rev. Dr. Chester V. Joines officiating will be held on Friday, April 11, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Wetzel Funeral Home, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Jacobs Union Cemetery, York New Salem.
