Harold S. Boyer

YORK Harold S. "Hal" Boyer, 86, of Springettsbury Township, died Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at York Hospital. He was the husband of Elvada "Chris" (Saulmon) Armstrong Boyer. Born September 16, 1926, in York, he was the third son of the late Roy and Sallie E. (Stiles) Boyer. He attended McKinley Elementary, Hannah Penn Junior High. and was a member of William Penn's class of 1944. After serving in the U.S. Merchant Marines and the U.S. Army during WWII, he attended Penn State University where he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi social fraternity, Delta Sigma Pi, honorary business fraternity, Blue Key National Society, and manager of the Varsity Rifle team. Upon his graduation from Penn State he joined General Electric Company in its Financial Management Program. His 38 year GE career included assignments in Bridgeport, Conn., Allentown, Schenectady, N.Y., Saint Louis, Mo., Kansas City, Mo., and Los Angeles, Calif. He retired as manager of GE's Saudi Arabian offices in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia. Upon his retirement, Mr. Boyer continued to work as a consultant to several Middle East companies. He immensely enjoyed his boyhood neighborhood of West Jackson Street and the wonderful neighbors and his boyhood friends. He was a life member of the Eagle Fire Company No. 7, which was the focal point of the neighborhood. He was a member of Yorkshire United Methodist Church and a former member of the Outdoor Country Club. He also enjoyed the comradeship of the golfing "snakes." In addition to his wife, Mr. Boyer is survived by a son, Donald Boyer and his wife, Kristal of York; four daughters, Jeanne Boyer and her companion, Charles Halldorson of Riverside, Calif., Kathie Foote and her husband, Arthur of Bridgewater, Conn., Karen Boyer and her companion, Charles Campbell of York, and Christine Reese and her husband, Jack of Pine Grove; stepdaughter, Linda Rice and her husband, Bob of York; two stepsons, Steve Armstrong of Missouri, and Mark Armstrong and his wife, Laura of California; eight grandchildren, Jessica and Sarah Berry, DJ and David Boyer, Thomas, Daniel, and James Foote, and Heather Frye; eight step grandchildren; and his former spouse, Jeannette (Arnold) Boyer of York. He was also preceded in death by his three brothers, all of whom died tragically - Don was killed in World War II, and Bud and Wade were killed in an airplane crash in 1998. Funeral services are scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Sunday, June 30, 2013, at Yorkshire United Methodist Church, 125 Edgewood Road, with his Pastor, The Rev. Dennis A. Hummel, officiating. Viewings will be 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday at Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc., 863 S. George St., York, and 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the church. Graveside services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at Mount Rose Cemetery, with military rites presented by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
