Irma Lee Gotwalt Mt. Joy.

MT. JOY Irma Lee "Bobbie" Gotwalt, 88, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Hospice and Community Care of Mt. Joy. Born in Estelline, Texas, in 1925, Bobbie and her family spent a number of tough years during the Great Depression, working and moving their way across the country to California. Bobbie had enduring memories of those times, feeling proud to have helped the family by picking cotton and by handling the task no one wanted to do, standing in line to receive food rations provided by the government. She had many wonderful memories of growing up with her two sisters and two brothers. She met her husband, the late Robert S. Gotwalt of York in 1945, while working in the civilian branch of the U.S. Army in California. After moving to York, they had two children, the late Jay S. Gotwalt and Trice Gotwalt Fremlin of British Columbia, Canada. Bobbie loved her six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, who fondly remember her creativity, gifts, and quirky sense of humor. They enjoyed playing cards and Scrabble with her and having Grandma-made meals at her home. Bobbie loved her 25-year career at McCrory's, where she formed lifelong friendships. After retiring from there, she worked at the Salvation Army, prepared taxes and had a grand time making angels as gifts and for sale. Over the years, many people called upon her to volunteer her artistic talents, and she willingly provided. Extended family members have affectionate memories of Bobbie and provided much needed help to her, especially in her final months of life. She spent the last seven years of her life in the Stonybrook Garden Apartments, where she felt very fortunate to have made good friendships. A remembrance and celebration service will be held for her at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2014 at Bethany United Methodist Church, 1401 Mount Rose Avenue, York. Friends and family are cordially invited to visit with the family from 1 p.m. till the time of the service at the church or after the service, when a reception will follow. Pastor Dennis L. McCleary will officiate the service. A private burial will take place in Mount Rose Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to York County , 924-N Colonial Avenue, York, PA 17403. Arrangements are being handled by the Etzweiler Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market St., York, PA. www.etzweiler.com
