Janet M. Kise

NORTH YORK Janet M. Kise, 108, died at 4:17 p.m. Thursday, July 3, 2014, at The York Lutheran Home in the Village at Sprenkle Drive. She was the wife of the late Harry F. Kise. Born March 20, 1906 in Emigsville, a daughter of the late Elias S. and Daisy (Gross) Detwiler, she attended schools in the Central York School District and graduated from Shippensburg State Teachers College. She was a school teacher for 42 years, having taught at Pleasureville Elementary School and was principal of Wilson Elementary School. She was a member of Messiah United Methodist Church and the Pennsylvania State Education Association. She enjoyed teaching private summer kindergarten; creating scripts, scenery and costumes for church plays; and making crafts for children to give, as well as her association with other Central School District retirees. Mrs. Kise is survived by two nephews, Jack E. Detwiler, and his wife Pat, of Manheim, and Farrell S. Thompson, and his wife Vickie, of York; a niece, Donna Lou Petters, and her husband Carl, of Charleston, South Carolina; and her nephew's wife, Dot Detwiler, of Litiz. She was also preceded in death by two nephews, Blair C. Thompson and Dawson K. Detwiler, two sisters, Irene Keesey and Emma Thompson, and a brother, Stewart Detwiler. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Messiah United Methodist Church, 1300 N. Beaver St., with her Pastor, The Rev. W. Michael Langford, officiating. Viewing will be 1-2 p.m. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. William E. Little Funeral Homes, Inc., 60 S. Main St., Manchester, is in charge of arrangements.
