YORK Joanna Santina Borsa Pentz, date of birth April 10, 1925, age 87, passed into eternity on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 5:30pm with her husband and son at her side. She and her husband of 58 years, Donald Christian Pentz, age 86, had recently moved from Potter County to winter in York. Joanna was an active woman who loved everything outdoors: animals, golf, gardening, walking, and she had a great knowledge of birds, plants, and flowers. She also excelled at cooking, baking pies, scrabble, crosswords, and puzzles. Loving music and reading, Joanna was active in a book club and an avid concertgoer. Joanna, with her ceaseless energy, stamina, and will, bounced back three times from major hospitalizations in 2012. In the end her will to live was not strong enough to combat God's exit plan, although she railed against the complications of CHF until the final day. Joanna was a recent grandmother and is survived by her granddaughter, Makanna Elise Pentz, age 1 year; her son, Mark Cameron Pentz and her daughter-in-law, Christine Pentz who reside in Mount Wolf. Joanna, first generation Italian, was the eldest of six children born to her father, Domenico Borsa, and her mother, Guiditta Albina Zancanaro Borsa, who emigrated from North Italy. All of her siblings live in York and are listed in their order of birth: Joseph, Marie, John, Catherine, and Paul. Joanna earned a degree from York College in 1952 and worked in the Medical field until her marriage in 1954. Much more than just a housewife, she lived in North Brunswick, New Jersey until 1971 when they moved to Potter County and ran the Colonial hotel in Westfield, PA until 1987. The viewing will be 9 to 10 a.m. with a funeral mass to follow on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at Saint Mary's Catholic Church at 309 S George St York. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to Heartland Hospice Services 3417C Concord Rd, York, PA 17402. For Joanna's friends in Potter County a Memorial Service will be held around her birthday. The John W. Keffer Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., East York, is in charge.
