Karen Ann Beattie

YORK Karen Ann Beattie, 70, was ushered into the presence of God by the Lord's angels on Wednesday, January 23, 2013, from the York Hospital. She was the widow of Leonard Beattie. Born on January 17, 1943, in Hudson, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Cleve and Anna Hughes. She was a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church, York. Karen was a counselor to young women at the Community Progress Council. Karen leaves to cherish her memory two granddaughters, Tianna Stanfield and Nicole Howard; a great-grandson, Denver Stanfield; three siblings, James Britto and wife, Betty of Rochester, N.Y., David Hughes and wife, Denise of Hudson, N.Y., and Richard Hughes and wife, Jean, also of Hudson; devoted aunts, Isadora Caldwell of New York, and Phyllis Frasier of Huntington, Long Island, N.Y.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; her Cornerstone Baptist Church family; and three devoted friends who cared for her during her lengthy illness, Rose Kearse, Shirley Towles, and Carol Rawlison Doweary. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and daughter, Carmen Howard. A Celebration of Life Service will be on Saturday, February 9, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Cornerstone Baptist Church, 100 Lafayette St., York. The Rev. Mark Kearse will be officiating. Gladfelter Funeral Home Inc., York, is entrusted with the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home at 822 E. Market St., York, PA 17403 to help defray costs.
