L. Arlene Godfrey

DALLASTOWN L. Arlene (Zellers) Godfrey of Dallastown entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, after a brief illness, at 2:30 p.m. at York Hospital at the age of 94. She was the wife of Arthur P. Godfrey, who entered into rest on May 1, 1969. Arlene was born in Winterstown on March 6, 1920, and was the daughter of the late Thomas A. and Florence E. (Mundis) Zellers. Arlene was a Cashier at the former Acme in Red Lion, retiring after 35 years of service. She was a member of the Red Lion American Legion Post #543 Ladies Auxillary, Red Lion Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1446 Ladies Auxilary, Retail Clerks Union, a longtime, active and the oldest living member of Winterstown United Methodist Church in Felton and a member of the United Methodist Woman. Arlene is survived by two sons, Ray A. Godfrey and wife Brenda of Red Lion, and Dana L. Godfrey and wife Sharon of Red Lion; six grandchildren, Troy Godfrey, Melissa Frey, Michele Lauer, James Strawbridge, David Strawbridge and Nanette M. Wagner; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Rhada Gladfelter and husband Donald "Foot" of Dallastown; a niece, Ann McGinnis and husband Buddy; and a son-in-law, Terry Strawbridge of Dallastown. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Faye A. Strawbridge on October 11, 2012. A viewing will be held Tuesday, April 1 from 9 to 10 a.m. at Winterstown UM Church, 12184 Winterstown Road, Felton, PA. Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion, will be assisting the family with the arrangements. A Service of Honor and Praise for Arlene will be on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the church. Her pastor, Rev. Keith J. Schmuck will officiate. Burial will be in Winterstown UB Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be offered to Winterstown UM Church, "Building Fund" 12184 Winterstown Road, Felton, PA 17322. Arlene was a wonderful Mother who loved spending time with her family, especially with her sister Rhada and family at their cabin in Caledonia. She enjoyed attending church picnics, going to carnivals and auctions and listening to country music. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
