Larry D. Maynard

NEW PARK Larry D. Maynard, 63, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2013 at Hershey Medical Center. He was the husband of Kathleen S. (Ferris) Maynard. Larry and Kathleen celebrated 40 years of marriage in February 2012. Following cremation, a visitation will be held Saturday, February 16, 2013, from 1 to 2 p.m. at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 19 South Main St., Stewartstown. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. at the mortuary with Deacon Wendy Huber officiating and with Military Rites by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born March 30, 1949 in Cookville, Tenn., he was the son of the late Truman R. and Betty R. (Sadler) Maynard. Larry was a 1967 graduate of Kingston High School, Kingston, Mich. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp serving in the Vietnam War and was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal with 4 stars and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with palm. Larry retired in 2002 with over 35 years as a heating and air-conditioning contractor. In addition to his wife, Kathleen, he is survived by two sons, Douglas W. Maynard of New Park and Jason D. Maynard of East York; two grandsons, Pasen D. and Riley G. Maynard; father and mother-in-law, Martin A. Ferris, III and Veronica S. Ferris; three brothers-in-law, Martin A. Ferris, Jr., Tim Ferris and Dan Ferris; three sisters-in-law, Wendy Huber, Lynn Kim and Kelly Marks; siblings: Shirley R. Hutter and husband Ronald of Prescott, Ariz., Kenneth W. Maynard, Bill G. Maynard, Patsy G. Chippi and husband Bill, Joyce F. McPhail and husband Charlie, John D. Maynard and Jennifer L. Girard, all living in Michigan, and Helen A. Smith and husband Jerry of Cookville, Tenn.; also many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Darrell D. Maynard.
