Mary Bishop Wilson

YORK Mary Bishop Wilson died at York Hospital on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at age 92. She was the daughter of the late William A. and Mary (Fisher) Bishop. She was married to the late Edward D. Wilson and is survived by her daughter, Anne Wilson Kostas of Hellam, and her son, Edward W. Wilson, as well as his wife, Shari and daughter, Tess, of Mount Joy. She was preceded in death by her brothers, W. Austin Bishop, Ben L. Bishop, and Richard L. Bishop; and a sister, Theora Bishop. A native of Manheim, Lancaster County, she graduated from Manheim High School in 1938 and from West Chester State Teachers' College in 1942. She began her teaching career at Ephrata, and after two years returned to Manheim High School, where she taught music and directed choirs during the late 1940s and early 1950s. Later she resided in Wrightsville and Hellam with her family, and served for many years as a substitute teacher for the Eastern York and Central York school districts. Mary did volunteer work for the York County Red Cross and served on its board in the late 1970s. In 2007 she moved to St. John's Herr Estate in Columbia, where she was active in the chorus and chapel committee. She relocated to the Brunswick at Longstown in York in 2012. She was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Wrightsville and served several terms on its council. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 14, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 243 Hellam St., Wrightsville, with her pastor, the Rev. Barbara A. Caruana, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. A visitation will be held Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
