Nattie Garland

GLEN ROCK Nattie Garland, 94, went peacefully to be his Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 20, 2012, at his son's residence in Frederick, Md. He was the husband of Bonnie (Campbell) Garland. The couple celebrated 66 years of marriage this year. There will be a visitation from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, December 27, 2012, at Shrewsbury Assembly of God, 235 N. Main St., Shrewsbury. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Mark E. Fair officiating. Burial will be in New Freedom Cemetery, New Freedom. Born September 9, 1918, in Bakersville, N.C., Nattie was the son of the late Garrett and Mary (Greene) Garland. Nattie was a member of Shrewsbury Assembly of God for many years. He had served in the U.S. Army during WWII and during his working years had been self-employed as a sawmill operator in Glen Rock, In addition to his wife, Nattie is survived by a son, Rev. Dr. Michael D. Garland and his wife, Bernadine of Frederick, Md.; and grandchildren, Michelle Scell and husband, Luther, Mark Garland and wife, Ashley, and Marie Garland-Bertka and husband, Richard. He loved his great-grandchildren, Jeremiah, Jordyn, and Jacob Smith, Alexys Scell, and Darren Michael Garland; two sisters, Shirley Yelton and Fairy Mae Carver; two brothers, Cecil and Ernest Garland; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to Shrewsbury Assembly of God, 234 N. Main St., Shrewsbury, PA 17361; or Hospice of Frederick County, 516 Trail Ave., Frederick, MD 21701. The J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom, is in charge of the arrangements.
