Norman L. Garrett

YORK Norman L. Garrett, 76, of Springettsbury Township, died at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Hershey Medical Center. He was the husband of Betty L. (Black) Garrett. Born October 3, 1937, in York, a son of the late Faber and Mable (Wirtz) Garrett, he had worked for Certain-teed Roofing until its closure, and then for PA&S Small, and its successors, Schrivner, and Fleming, from where he retired. He was a member, bartender and cook at the 12th Ward Democratic Club. He was also a member of White Rose VFW #556, and was a volunteer for the York City Fire Department. In addition to his wife, Mr. Garrett is survived by a son, Norman V. Garrett, of Manchester; four daughters, Debra A. Welkner, and her significant other, Rich Apple, of Dover, Lorraine S. Watson, and her husband Gary, of Red Lion, Karen E. Finkenbiner, and her fiance Dave Markle, of York, and Leticia M. "Teesh" Giese, and her boyfriend Joe Thompson, of York; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; a brother, Glenn Garrett, of Florida; and a sister, Donna Triplett, of Hanover. A visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 2014, at Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc., 863 S. George St., York. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Animal Rescue, Inc., PO Box 35, Maryland Line, MD 21105.
