R. Jerry Akin

DOVER R. Jerry Akin, 63, died on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 12:32 p.m. at York Hospital. He was the husband of Lea M. (Dahlheimer) Akin with whom he celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary on June 27, 2012. Viewing will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, 2215 Brandywine Lane, York. The service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church with his pastors, the Rev. Stanley W. Combs and the Rev. Dr. Janyce C. Jorgensen, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Workinger-Semmel F.H. & Crematorium, Inc., York is handling the arrangements. The family requests casual dress. Mr. Akin was born April 17, 1949 in York, the son of the late Alfred W. and Margaret H. (Bowker) Akin. He was retired from BMY and also from the York County Prison where he was a corrections officer; a graduate of William Penn H.S. Class of ' 62, member of Zion Lutheran Church where he was a drummer with the church bands Noiz and Windswept; life member of the Vigilant Social Club and member of the Rooster Social Club, Viking A.A., Shiloh American Legion Post #791, Thirteenth Ward Club and the Twelfth Ward Club. He was an avid musician and the leader of Second Generation and Southbound Express bands. Mr. Akin is survived by his wife; a daughter, Lisa M. Rapp of York; a son, Todd S. Akin of York; two grandsons, Garth and Zane; a sister, Betty Jo Rudolph of York; a brother, Ronald Akin of Easton; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dogs, Zoey, Daphne and Rosie. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Eddie and Mike Akin.
