YORK Our Mother, Nana, Great Nana, Sister, Aunt Beck, Cousin, and Friend, Mrs. Rebecca Jones, closed her eyes on 30 August 2013 to rest forever with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was born in Bamberg, S.C., on 25 July 1926 to the late Mr. Alexander Franklin and Mrs. Mary Brabham-Franklin-Perry. She was the youngest of two sisters, Ethel Peyton (Carl) and Daisy Mae Anderson (Robert), and two brothers, Jasper (Buster) Brabham (Louise Generette) and Clarence Brabham, was the stepdaughter of Mr. Lee Perry, and the wife of Benjamin Jones, all of whom are deceased. She graduated from Frazier High School in Bamberg, S.C., when African Americans could only go to the 11th grade. She graduated from Orangeburg, S.C., Nursing School. She was employed by Bamberg Hospital until she moved to York in 1964 and worked at Pleasant Acres until she retired. She married Benjamin Jones at Thankful Baptist Church and they were blessed with Dr. Marianne Berche of Osage, Iowa, Mr. Ben Jones of Long Island, N.Y., Bishop David Jones (Pastor Lillie Mae) of Lakeland, Fla., Mr. Anthony Q. Jones (Madeline) of York, and Sallie Mae Jones of York; and her adopted daughter, Marion L. Williams of Manchester. She also leaves to cherish her memory her loving grandchildren, Ms. Yolanda I. Jones, Dr. Chrystal D. Berche (Dr. Timothy Young), Mr. David Jones, Jr., Sophia Austin, Ebony Kennedy, Anthony Q. Jones, Jr., Shelisa Ramash (Fazon), Dorsell Jones, Dakeem Jones, Tiffany Jones, Danielle Jones, and Kadeem Jones; and her 17 great-grandchildren. She also leaves her devoted and beloved niece and nephews, Ronald Simpson (Terri), Charles (Chuck) Jackson, Mary Louise Williams (Herman), and Ruth Williams. She suffered great tragedy in her 87 years with the loss of her sons, Harold, Nathaniel (Nate), and Alexander (Jack) Jones, and her granddaughter, Sylvia all have gone on to be with God and now she is with them. She was a devout Christian. In her younger years she was baptized and attended Thankful Baptist in Bamberg, S.C., where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, ushered, and was a missionary. She attended Bethel A.M.E. Church on Princess St. in York from 1964 until 1986. She joined the Senior choir and was an usher until she moved to Bethel Apostolic Church, York, now The Pentecostal's of York, where she was one of the Mothers of the church and a faithful member until her health failed. At an early age she enjoyed playing the piano and knitting, but most of all she enjoyed her family. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 6, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Pentecostal Church of York, 1550 E. 11th Ave., York, with the Rev. Jerry K. Tipton, Sr. officiating. A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. The Etzweiler Funeral Home, York, is in charge of arrangements.
