Richard A. Dorwart

YORK Richard A. Dorwart, 85, of Spring Garden Township, died Sunday, March 10, 2013, at his residence. He was the loving husband of Jeannette Geesey Dorwart. Richard (Dick, as his friends knew him) was born on June 12, 1927, in Lancaster, the son of George A. Dorwart and Mary M. Treier Dorwart. Dick was a 1945 graduate of McCaskey High School. He served in World War II in the U.S. Navy and was commissioned as an Ensign in the Naval Reserve. Upon discharge from the Navy, Dick graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a longtime member of Advent Lutheran Church, the Country Club of York, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Society of Refrigeration Engineers. He retired from York Borg Warner after 38 years as the Vice President of Engineering. He coached basketball for CYO. Dick enjoyed family and friends, golf, gardening and travel. In addition to his wife, Jeannette, he is survived by his daughter, Sue A. Fullmer and her husband John, of York; son, Richard A. Dorwart, Jr. and his wife, Michelle of Columbus, Ohio; daughter, Patricia A. Boorman and her husband, Bruce of Charlotte, N.C.; and Julie Dorwart and her husband Gregory Moore of Wilmington, NC; stepson, Jeffrey G. Neupauer and his wife, Susan K. of East Greenwich, R.I.; and stepdaughter, Jan A. Hurley and her husband Thomas of Ridgewood, N.J. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and three step grandchildren, Joseph and his wife, Emily and Patricia Fullmer, Katherine and Michael Dorwart, Laura, Tracy and Maggie Boorman, Matthew Moore, Adam and Caroline Neupauer and Matthew Hurley. Dick is survived by his sister, Janet Weisser and her husband, William of Lititz; and a brother, John Dorwart and his wife, Sharon of Harrisburg. He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Dorwart. A service to celebrate Dick's life will be held Friday, March 15, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Advent Lutheran Church, 1775 E. Market St., York with his pastors, the Rev. Brenda M. Ritterpusch and the Rev. David L. Ritterpusch, officiating. A visitation will be held Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at Owen Hall of the church. Private burial will be held in Mount Rose Cemetery. The Etzweiler Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Inc., York, is handling arrangements.
