Richard D. Hoover

YORK Richard D. "Dick" Hoover, 87, died at Normandie Ridge on December 10, 2012. He was the husband of Lois J. (Smiley) Hoover with whom he observed their 60th wedding anniversary on June 22, 2012. Born September 19, 1925, in Roaring Spring, he was the son of the late Howard A. and Velma B. (Bloom) Hoover. Dick was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He was baptized in 1931 and joined the Church of the Brethren that same year. He graduated from Juniata College in 1948. Following his graduation from Moody Bible Institute in 1951, he became pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Niagara Falls, NY and taught at Buffalo Bible Institute in 1952. He eventually retired as a self-employed Computer Programming Consultant. Dick was a member of Faith Bible Church in York, and the Boston West Camp and the York Northeast Camp of Gideons International. In addition to his wife, Dick is survived by a sister-in-law, Wilma A. Epler and her husband, Jay of Middletown; a niece, Katherine Sharpless; and a nephew, J. Michael Epler. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2012, at the Etzweiler Funeral Home, 1111 E. Market St., York, with Pastor Ken Keeler, his pastor officiating. A viewing will be held on Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. A private burial will be held in Shermans Dale Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Shermans Dale, PA.
