Roy E. Gross

YORK Roy E. Gross, 95, died on October 10, 2012, at the York Lutheran Retirement Village at Sprenkle Drive. He was the husband of Reda M. (Bortner) Gross of York; on March 21, 2012 they celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary. Born in York on January 16, 1917, he was the son of the late Kurvin and Sallie (Hoffman) Gross. He worked for York International, retiring in 1979, as a prototype assembler for the company. Roy was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a 1934 graduate of William Penn Senior High School, a member of Heidelberg United Church of Christ the Viking A.A., the UAW Local #1872, and was a long time member of the Cotillion Club. In addition to his wife he is survived by a son, Philip R. Gross and his wife, Barbara of York; a stepdaughter, Pamela A. Strathmeyer and her husband, Jack of York; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Erne and her husband, Mark, Kristina Tompkins and her husband, Kent, Gregory Gross; and four great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 15, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Etzweiler Funeral Home, 1111 E. Market St., York, with The Rev. Amy J. Shultz officiating. A viewing will be held Monday from 10 until 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Heidelberg United Church of Christ 47 W. Philadelphia St., York, PA 17401.
