Roy F. Ruppert

LANCASTER Roy F. Ruppert, 69, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at the Lancaster Regional Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Lockie M. (Swengel) Ruppert. He was born in Hanover, to his parents, the late Roy Donald Boyer and Marguerite Ruth Smith. He graduated from William Penn Sr. High School and then served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Roy was well known in the York real estate circles in the late 60's and 70's. He began his career with Golden Rule Realty and later held management positions with Daniel Blank Gallery of Homes and Century 21 Heritage Realty. He became National Training Director for Gallery of Homes based in Atlanta, Ga., and was later employed by Gascard, the company that developed gas pumps that accepted credit cards. He finished his employment with Mail Boxes, Etc. of San Diego, Calif., as Executive Vice President. After retiring, Roy returned to York and got busy again by starting an antique and collectibles business, Antiquesco, operating a booth at the Stoudt's Antique Center in Adamstown. In addition, he created The Olde York Business Exchange. Roy loved to travel and two of his favorite places were Paris and London. He also researched and wrote his family's genealogy, which dated back into the 13th century. Roy is survived by his longtime companion, Kaye M. Biermann of Lancaster; two daughters, Chase Brady of Chicago, Ill., and a daughter, Vickie; and six grandchildren. Roy was predeceased by a son, Dennis Ruppert. Roy will be missed by his furry companions, two Somali cats, Buddy and PITA. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
