Ruth E. Starner

DOVER Ruth E. "Skeets" (Davenport) Starner, 87, went with the angels on Friday, December 14, 2012 at York Hospital. There will be no viewing. Following cremation with Workinger-Semmel F.H. & Crematorium, Inc., York, a Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 21st at Emmanuel Christian Fellowship, 2309 E. Philadelphia St., York. The Rev. James P. Herbert will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Born in York on August 9, 1925, Ruth was the daughter of the late Andrew and Margaret (Willi) Davenport. She was the former wife of Charles Starner, Sr. of Santa Fe, N.M. Ruth devoted her life to loving her large and extended family and friends and was a member of the Shiloh American Legion Post #791 Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by sons, Charles Starner, Jr. and wife Patti of Huntington, and John "Andy" Starner of York; daughters, Lorraine "Renie" Murphy of York and Debra Rowe and husband Mike of Dover; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and her beloved dog, Maggie. She was preceded in death by two granddaughters, infant Christina Groft and Kelly (Horan) Williams; a daughter, Susan Rockstroh; and a son, Brian Starner who died on September 30, 2012.
