S. Russell Edie

SHREWSBURY S. Russell Edie, 83, died Friday, December 28, 2012, at his residence. He was the husband of the late Ruth Elizabeth (Somerville) Edie. There will be a visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, December 31, 2012, at Grace United Methodist Church, 473 Plank Road, Shrewsbury. A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at the church with Pastor Jeffery A. Slemp, Jr. officiating. Born June 17, 1929, in Gatchelville, he was the son of the late Sterling F. and Reba Maude (Torbert) Edie. Mr. Edie owned and operated Edie's Excavation in Shrewsbury for 20 years. He was formerly employed by AMP, Inc., where he retired after 38 years working as a machinist. He also owned and operated Edie's Archery Shop in Shrewsbury for 15 years. Mr. Edie built his own airfield and flew his own plane. He loved archery and pitching horseshoes. Surviving are his daughters, Deborah Airing of Shrewsbury and Lori Runkle of Glen Rock; grandchildren, Chad Bailey and Julie Delozier; great-grandchildren, Jason Delozier, Jr., Joshua Delozier, Zayon Bailey, Jared Bailey, and Jacob Delozier; sisters, Ruth Wood of New Freedom and Joyce Keeney of Glen Rock; and brother, Harry C. Edie of Loganton. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Edie was preceded in death by his sister, Janice Mooney In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 7, Shrewsbury, PA 17361. J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom, is assisting the family with arrangements.
