William H. Flinchbaugh

WINTER PARK, FL William H. Flinchbaugh, 83, passed away January 21, 2014, in Winter Park, Fla. He was born in Dallastown, on March 15, 1930, to the late Jacob and Cora Flinchbaugh. He graduated from Dallastown High School. As a Boy Scout he achieved the rank of Eagle and continued his career in Scouting for many years. He received his AA from York Community College and earned his BA from Gettysburg College in political science. Stationed in Europe during the Korean War, he served as an Army Sergeant in the intelligence field. He returned home to Dallastown to serve as a Boy Scout Executive. William became the Director of the Chamber of Commerce in Hazleton, and after marrying Marygrace C. Ryan on July 1, 1961, he settled in Rome, N.Y., with the position of the Director of the Chamber of Commerce. He later became the Urban Renewal Director in Rome and was involved in the city's redevelopment, including the restoration of Fort Stanwix National Monument. In retirement, he lived in central Florida. He is survived by four of his five children, Donna M. Kittell of Altamonte Springs, Fla., Steven A. Flinchbaugh and his wife, Rosemarie of Red Bank, N.J., Paul A. Flinchbaugh and his wife, Stephanie of Rome, Ga., and Kimberly C. Bailey of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; as well as seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his aunt, Louise Lauer of York; his brother, Vernon Flinchbaugh and his wife, Peg of Dallastown; a sister, Nancy Connor of Dallastown; five nieces and nephews; and 12 great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Marygrace, and son, William Flinchbaugh of White Plains, N.Y. Private services are planned for late spring. He will be laid to rest at Blymire Cemetery in Dallastown. Donations in his memory may be made to the National Audubon Society, as he was an avid bird watcher throughout his life. The Austin H.
