Paul Schrum Obituary

DOVER TWP. Paul L. Schrum, 89, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2011, at Providence Place Retirement Community, Dover. He was the husband of Mae A. (March) Schrum, with whom he celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on October 17, 2010. Mr. Schrum was born in Whitmore Lake, Mich. on August 28, 1921, son of the late Harvey G. and Emma J. (Spahr) Schrum. He was employed as a plant manager for Gichner Mobile Systems, Dallastown, from which he retired in 1986. He served his country proudly as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army during W.W.II with the 713th Armored Flame Thrower Battalion and Tank Commander. Paul was a recipient of the Silver Star and served in the Pacific Theater. Paul was a member of Shiloh Lutheran Church, York. In addition he was a member of the Shiloh American Legion Post 791, West Manchester V.F.W. 7374, Viking Athletic Assoc., Dover AARP and the National Rifle Assoc. In addition to his wife, Paul is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Lynn E. Schrum, four brothers and two sisters. Funeral service is scheduled for Thursday at 11 a.m. from Shiloh Lutheran Church, 2201 Church Rd., York. Officiating will be his pastor, the Rev. Kathy A. Swords. Final resting place will be in Salem Union Cemetery, Dover, with full military rites by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. There will be a viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Shiloh Lutheran Church, 2201 Church Road, York, PA 17408. Arrangements were entrusted to the LeRoy R. Leber Funeral Home, Inc., York (Shiloh).

I have fond memories of Uncle Paul and regret not visiting once I became an adult. My regrets to Aunt Mae and Diane and am sure my Dad will welcome him home. Terry Schrum, Ormond Beach, FL
