Lucille Rutledge Obituary

YORK Lucille M. (Kindig) Rutledge, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died on Saturday, September 8, 2012, at her home. She was the wife of George F. Rutledge, who died on June 13, 2001. They were married for 58 years. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 14, 2012, at Mt. Zion United Church of Christ, 1054 Ridgewood Road, York, with her pastor, The Rev. Cathy H. Sherry, officiating. A viewing will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Born in York, on November 4, 1925, she was the daughter of the late G. Albert and Dora I. (Hively) Kindig. Two brothers, Robert and Kenneth Kindig, preceded her in death. Lucille was a graduate of William Penn High School. She and her husband, George, were married on April 30, 1943. During the time that George was serving in the U.S. Navy in WWII, Lucille worked at the Cut Rate Shoe Store and A&P grocery. Later in life she was as a clerk at Kline's Food Market. For the majority of her adult life however, Lucille was a loving wife, devoted mother, homemaker, and caregiver. Lucille's life revolved around those she loved. Her priority was her family, but she was a loyal friend with friendships that endured the span of her life. She had the kindest of hearts and always put others before herself. Lucille and her husband, George, enjoyed traveling - visiting 18 European countries, sites in the Caribbean, and many destinations throughout the United States and Canada. She also enjoyed bus trips with friends to tearooms and local points of interest. In her retirement, Lucille took up golf and played regularly into her early 80's in ladies events at Briarwood Golf Course. She belonged to the York Mall Walkers and Pleasureville Red Hat Society. Lucille was a charter member of Mt. Zion U.C.C. Lucille is survived by two daughters, Dawn E. Burgoon and husband, John of Greencastle, and Pamela A. Rutledge and her companion, Ricardo Soto of York; and a granddaughter, Nicole E. Matero and husband, Anthony of Dallastown. The joys of her life were her great-granddaughters, Katie R. and Allison M. Matero; and great-grandson, Anthony J. Matero. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Zion U.C.C., 1054 Ridgewood Road, York, PA 17406. Send Condolences at BestLifeTributes.com

Pam & Dawn,

Thinking of you during your time of sorrow. She was a very special lady.
Many a time I've heard stories how she was always there to help her friends and relatives out. I haven't seen her in recent years, but she was always so nice to me, and also my parents whenever they would run into her.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.
