George Myers Obituary

YORK George Samuel Myers, 62, passed away Friday, Novembr 29, 2013, at York Hospital. He was the husband of Diane C. (Ciccarelli) Myers, to whom he was married 43 years. Born June 23, 1951, in York, a son of Janet (Striebig) Myers and the late H. Quentin Myers, he was a 1969 graduate of Dallastown Area High School and a 1973 graduate of University of Maryland. During high school and college, Mr. Myers was a standout wrestler, the first from Dallastown to win the PIAA State Championship, earning him a full wrestling scholarship to University of Maryland. After graduating he joined the family market business, H. Quentin Myers and Sons, and was a co-owner of Myers Farm Nursery in Leader Heights. Throughout his years with these family businesses, he touched the lives of many. George deeply loved being with family and friends and they all shared a love of the outdoors. He was most happy when combining the two. He loved surf fishing and spending time with his children and grandchildren in Bethany Beach and Myrtle Beach, hiking and hunting in Spruce Creek on his daughter and son-in-law's farm, and all over Montana. He would walk in woods and fields for hours, studying and enjoying animals and nature. He was a more than avid dry fly fisherman and archery hunter, and his enthusiasm for these activities established many lifelong friendships. A member and past president of the Codorus Chapter of Trout Unlimited, he was also a member of York Archers, Fairview and 6X Camps in PA and Montana. During his children's school years he was involved with football and wrestling programs and booster clubs. In addition to his wife and mother, Mr. Myers is survived by a daughter, Kristin Angela Schettler and husband, George of Spruce Creek; a son, Benjamin George Myers and wife, Margaret of York; and three grandchildren, Brian, Sam, and Josh. Also surviving are brothers, Scott Myers and wife, Ginny of Rock Hill, S.C., and Jody Myers and wife, Micki of York; five sisters, Dixie Wilson of Ellicott City, Md., Bonnie Hunter and husband, Paul, Barbara Frey and husband, Donnie, all of Charlotte, N.C., BoAnn Myers and husband, George of Dallastown, and Kelly Myers Moore and husband, Dale of Monroe, N.C. He also leaves sisters-in-law, Linda Seitz and husband, Jim of York, and Judy Ensminger and husband, Ned of Spring Grove; and numerous loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Q. Myers. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, at New Fairview Church of the Brethren, 1873 New Fairview Church Road, York. Visitation and fellowship will follow the service at 2 p.m. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion. is in charge of arrangements. Diane,
From Jr. high to age 59, George was my source of information, always a help-the brother that we always wished we had. Because you selflessly dedicated every minute of every day to his wonderful care, we were able to enjoy George's company for the last year.
George was the one everyone always counted on to 'get it done'- and when he counted on you, you dedicated your life to him.
Thank you..he was so loved.

Dear Diane and the entire Myers Family and all of George's friends: I was very, very sad to receive the message about George Myers' passing. I feel a real loss. I wish peace to George and love and strength to his family and friends. I hope that they all will find comfort, happiness, and love in the memories they all share with George.

George Myers inspired me as an athlete. I watched him become Dallastown High School's first PA State Wrestling Champion in 1969. I can remember, like it was yesterday, the assembly we had to honor him. I was a sophomore. Seeing him (and watching him wrestle) was a thrill. It had a huge impact on me. And, it inspired me to want to be like him. To be a champion, as an athlete ... for Dallastown High School and for any team I played on. I am so happy that I had, and took, the opportunity to tell George how I felt about him when our morning gym group worked together on clearing up the yard for him and Diane a few weeks ago. I am so very happy that he knew how I felt.

God Bless You, George. May God give you peace and rest. GODSPEED.
