YORK Althea B. Crumling, 92, died Thursday, May 2, 2013, at Normandie Ridge. She was the wife of the late Glenn R. Crumling. Born June 30, 1920, in Spring Grove, Althea was the daughter of the late Luther and Lestie (Stover) Ruppert. She is survived by two daughters, Dawn Brenner and her husband, Bill, and Shana Garling and her husband, Jerrold; two granddaughters, Kim Brenner-Zirkle and her husband, Dave, and Lori Pergament and her husband, Steve; a great-granddaughter, Pastelle Pergament; and a sister-in-law, Mae Ruppert. A nephew, Gary Crumling, resides in Myrtle Beach. Althea was preceded in death by her brother, Vernon Ruppert, and nephew, Bud Ruppert. Alverta Rohrbaugh of Hanover was her long time devoted friend. Althea was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Mt. Wolf and the Women's Auxiliary of Mt. Wolf VFW Post 2493. Mrs. Crumling loved reading, gardening, and dancing. She graduated from Rosenteel School of Cosmetology in 1939. Althea was a lifelong devoted homemaker and the part-time secretary at the G.R. Crumling Tire Center. Althea grew up on a farm and loved animals, raising her own peacocks for many years. Her produce often won first prizes at the York Fair. She was dedicated to her family and will be remembered as a woman who loved learning, nature, her family, and her God. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 9, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Etzweiler Funeral Home, 1111 E. Market St., York, with her pastor, the Rev. Jason Northridge, officiating. A visitation will be held Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. A private family burial will follow in Mount Rose Cemetery.
