FORT MYERS, FL Bernard D. DeWitt, 89, unexpectedly went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 25, 2013. He was the husband of Laura L. DeWitt to whom he was married to for 67 years. Born on July 11, 1923 in West Virginia, he was the son of the late Oscar and Etta DeWitt. He was retired from Atlantic Casson and was a veteran of World War II. He enjoyed his family and loved to fish. In addition to his wife, Bernie is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Dorer of York and Joann King and husband Robert of Dover; two sons, Dale DeWitt and wife Susan of York and Bernard DeWitt, Jr. and wife Maggie of Dover; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and four sisters. Following cremation, a memorial service was held in Celebration of Life in Fort Myers, Fla. There will be a service held at a later date in York for those family members and friends who were unable to attend the one in Fort Myers.
