YORK Carl G. Hamme, 60, passed unexpectedly on Sunday, January 13, 2013, at the York Hospital. He was the husband of Florence (Hershey) Hamme, who passed on December 22, 2012. Born on April 27, 1952, in Hanover, he was the son of Florence M. (Shaffer) and Russell E.L. Hamme of Spring Grove. He graduated from Spring Grove Area High School and honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force in Thailand during the Vietnam War. He was employed by Shuman Heritage doing inlay and copy. In previous years he worked for Turkey Hill on Richland Ave. part-time for 20 years. Mr. Hamme was a life member of the West Manchester VFW Post 7374, the Southend Democratic Club, the Vigilant Social Club, and the 9th Ward Social Club. He was an avid Penn State, Phillies, and Eagles Fan. He leaves to cherish his memory his parents, Russell and Florence Hamme; his children, Christina Hamme Orendorff of North Carolina and Christopher Hamme; stepchildren, Charles Kling, James Schlosser, Clair Kling, Jr., and Melissa Kling; siblings, Les Hamme and Cindy of Dover, Bryan (Scoot) Hamme and wife, Bonnie of Spring Grove, and Kevin (Bud) Hamme and wife, Michelle of York; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence; a brother, Richard Hamme, who passed in 2003; and a great-grandson, Benjamin C. Wolf. Services and interment will be at the convenience of the family. Gladfelter Funeral Home, Inc., York, is in charge of the arrangements.
