YORK Carol Deatherage, 78, passed away at her residence on August 13, 2014. Born November 14, 1935, in Yorkana, she was the daughter of the late Nelson and Blanche (Mergenthaler) Leik. Carol was the mother of Robert Deatherage and his wife, Joni of York, and Denise Harper and her husband, Tim of Warriors Mark, PA, and grandmother to Lani Deatherage. She is also survived by two brothers, Ronald Leik and his wife, Viola of New Cumberland and Terry Leik and his wife Lydia of York; and two sisters Mary Baker and her husband, Robert of Camp Hill; and Trudy Lambie and her husband, Fred of Harvard, Mass. She adored her many nieces and nephews, and their children. After graduating from William Penn Senior High School in 1953, she served in the U.S. Navy. She retired from Wilton Armetale in 2001. For many years, she was a member of the American Business Women's Association, United Methodist Women and a lifelong member of Christ United Methodist Church in Yorkana, where she taught pre-K Sunday School for more than 40 years. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 13, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, 5 Main Street, Yorkana, with her pastor, the Rev. Douglas Eberly, officiating. A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Military honors will be performed by the York County Veterans Honor Guard at the church following the service. A luncheon will be offered after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to her church in her memory, Christ United Methodist Church, 5 Main St., Yorkana, PA 17406.
