YORK Charles C. "Charlie" Hoffman, 91, died Monday, February 27, 2012, at Country Meadows at Trolley Road. Charlie was the husband of Margaret S. (Meyers) Hoffman. Margaret and Charles celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on April 19, 2011. Born May 31, 1920, in East Berlin, he was the son of the late Raymond L. and Estella F. (Trimmer) Hoffman. Mr. Hoffman was a supervisor at Campbell Chain and retired in 1982 with 43 years of service. He was a U.S. Merchant Marine Veteran of WWII and a 1938 graduate of East Berlin High School. He was a member of Locust Grove United Church of Christ, Viking Club, Red Lion Elks Lodge #1592, Hawk Gunning Club, Grandview Golf Club, and the Geritol Club of Grandview. In addition to his loving wife, Margaret, he is survived by two daughters, Rebecca C. and her husband, Robert A. Simmons of York, and Karen E. and her husband, Rodney L. Jacoby of York; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold E. Hoffman of Ashburn, Va.; and a sister, Evelyn P. See of Port Orange , Fla. Charles was preceded in death by two brothers, Jacob and Raymond Hoffman. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday March 2, 2012, at the Etzweiler Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market St., York, with his pastor, the Rev. Rick Stuempfle, officiating. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. There will be no viewing or visitation prior to the service. Family and friends are cordially invited to pay their respects by attending a luncheon to follow the committal at the cemetery.
